Does anybody have a copy of A. J. Woodman's translation of Tacitus's Annals here in New Haven? (If you took Intro to the History of the Roman Empire some time in the past 4 years, I'm looking at you...)

I need to read a few sections of that particular translation, and since I already have the Penguin, I don't want to buy another copy of the Annals... but the only library that has it is A&A on Open Reserve (GRR).

Changed my journal from winter-theme to spring-theme, since (supposedly) the weather is done being cold. Yay!

...and yet another post, because I just stumbled across this video of talking cats. Seriously. The last one is definitely the best.

Yanked from my brother - a new homepage for procrastinators/seniors.

I'm about to play Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, on Dan's Wii. I started a character yesterday.

I named my Link character "Href," and I named my Epona horse "ePony."

Since I'm bored, here is a snake game.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

It's a little bit creepy to open up my checked luggage and find an inspection notification note from the TSA sitting on my underwear.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

I love those moments when I'm reading Latin and I suddenly make the connection between Latin words and English ones. A recent example was when I was reading a Latin word that basically translates as, "done with proper auspices," and realized it was "inauguratus" or something (ie inaugurate - you can see "augur" right there).

Just happened again - I've always found the word for "winter" (hibernus) to be easy to remember because it's distinctive, but totally unrelated to an English word, until I just found a point where it means, "winter quarters" for soldiers - as in, hibernate.

Apparently, this has been in the Swedish Top 20 for the past two weeks, and it's currently #2.

...I wonder what this says about the Swedish...

Warren told me about OK Go's music video for "Here It Goes Again." I probably would have looked it up anyhow, since I like OK Go and I like that song, but then I found out that in the video, they dance on treadmills.

It is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen.

iTunes is giving away 25 free songs/week for the next month. Join their facebook group and then click the link at the top of the profile (if you don't see it, try a different browser - my adblocking software in Firefox wouldn't allow it to display). This week's sampler is "alternative"; next week is "electronica/dance" and I'm not sure what's coming after that...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

so I decided that my windows installation was too goofy/my hd too full, and that I needed to reinstall windows. I had brought home my office and photoshop discs, but as I prepared, I realized I'd forgotten to bring home a windows xp pro disc. I backed up all my data (or at least I hope I got all of it), burned a windows cd, restarted the computer. I delayed, and then pressed the "delete partition" button, and formatted a new partition... and then 93% of the way through copying files, I started getting error messages that the files could not be copied.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH

I'm currently trying to burn a new windows disc, and hoping it's the fact that I used a cd burner that I've known to be faulty in the past (except, I didn't get any error messages before while I was burning the cd...)

I've been using Rainlendar as my calendaring program for awhile. I like it well enough, but I felt like making a move towards a larger-scale program again. I was going to give Sunbird, Mozilla's stand-alone, another try, when I discovered Lightning, a Thunderbird extension that basically turns Thunderbird into something more like Outlook - email plus calendar.

Kinda cool. I might try to use them both for awhile... there are still things I like better about Rainlendar, but having a calendar inside of Thunderbird is nice.

I've been missing certain people lately, and so I tried to fix that a bit tonight. Partially it backfired, but what did happen was awesome. Which was Mike S, Warren, Lizzie, Dan and I playing WCIII Frozen Throne. Surprisingly, Lizzie had never played before. Also surprisingly, I came in 2nd of 12 in the last game (Dan's unbeatable). I'm proud of myself. We had immense amounts of fun and vowed to do it again. Gilene was there at the beginning too, which was also awesome.

I still get a little touchy when people tell me how to play, because I like to do things my way. And I'm clearly doing *something* (even if not *everything*) right for me to come in 2nd.

But yeah, the dorkiness was unbelievable, and unbelievably tasty.

I'm still not getting any schoolwork done. Which is really terribly unfortunate. But despite this, I've realized I'm not too far in over my head. I have 4-5 papers to write (totaling about 23-38 pages... wow that sounds big all of a sudden), semiweekly Latin preparation, and 3 finals before I'm done in 1.5 months. All of it is pretty well spaced out, too - not more than one thing per week til the finals roll around, I think. Aside from that, I just need to do enough reading to stay afloat in section.

Oh, housing draw is tomorrow night. Wish me luck... with a lot of it, I might even manage to get a nice single AND clip to Mike S / Mike H / Warren / DT's sextet.

Well, I made it safely to Pittsburgh. Got a little scary with a lot of snow at one point, but it failed to wreck my car. Ten points for Sarah.

It's weird how possibilities change your perceptions. For example, I frequently went to late-night meetings last year, and I'd periodically go get food by myself, or similar late-night endeavors. I'd feel weird walking back from Phelps along College St at 4 in the morning, but I usually felt pretty okay at night. I went to go home last night from Dan's room, though, and I was totally creeped out and jumpy, even though it was only around 2. Maybe it was partially caused by the fact that no one was on campus, but I think another factor was that he could have walked me home but didn't (not blaming him or complaining, of course - I'm just saying that there was a hypothetical possibility). It's odd how there are things you wouldn't think twice about doing until you realize you could be doing something else... subjectivity interfering with objectivity and all.

So, yeah... back in Pittsburgh, if any Pittsburgh folk are interested - but only for tonight (Wednesday), as I've got family stuff to do Thurs and Fri.
